Revelation Chapter 8
Showing all 13 verses for Revelation Chapter 8.
The People's Bible is written by people, for the people. Each verse below shows:
"And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour. "
"When the Lamb opens the seventh and final seal, heaven goes completely silent for about half an hour."
Not every moment needs noise or words - sometimes the most respectful, honest response to something serious is simply to stop and be still. Make room for silence in your life; it has its own value.
"And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets. "
"John sees the seven angels who stand in God's presence, and each is given a trumpet."
I always give warning before consequence lands - I want you to have every chance to change course, not to be caught unaware.
"And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. "
"Another angel stands at the altar with a golden incense-holder, given a large amount of incense to offer up together with the prayers of God's people on the golden altar before the throne."
Every honest prayer you've ever whispered has been received and valued - none of it is wasted, even when it feels like silence answers you back.
"And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angelβs hand. "
"The smoke of the incense, mixed with the prayers of God's people, rises up before God from the angel's hand."
When you pray or hope for something honestly, trust that it truly reaches somewhere - it isn't just words spoken into empty air.
"And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast it into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake. "
"The angel fills the censer with fire from the altar and hurls it down to earth, triggering rumbling voices, thunder, lightning and an earthquake."
I hear the cries of those who've been wronged, and I do act - not always on the timeline we'd choose, but real accountability follows real prayer.
"And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound. "
"The seven angels holding the trumpets get ready to sound them."
Preparation matters. Whatever season is coming for you, use the pause you're given now to get ready rather than being caught off guard.
"The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up. "
"The first trumpet brings hail and fire mixed with blood, hurled onto the earth; a third of the trees are burned up, along with all the green grass."
How you treat the world around you, and the choices a society makes together, have real consequences - I want you to live with genuine care for creation, not carelessness.
"And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; "
"The second trumpet sends what looks like a huge blazing mountain crashing into the sea; a third of the sea turns to blood."
Systems built on exploitation aren't as stable as they look. I ask you to build your security on something more lasting than resources and commerce.
"And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed. "
"A third of the living creatures in the sea die, and a third of the ships are destroyed."
Wealth and trade built without regard for what's right or for the wider world eventually prove fragile. I ask you to value people and creation above profit alone.
"And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; "
"The third trumpet sends a great blazing star, like a torch, falling onto a third of the rivers and springs."
What seems like a small, distant event can have consequences that reach right down into the most basic parts of daily life. Pay attention to what you assume is untouchable.
"And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter. "
"The star is named Wormwood, and a third of the water turns bitter, killing many who drink it."
What you feed your life on - the choices, habits and influences you allow in - eventually shapes everything downstream, including how it affects the people around you. Choose sources that give life, not bitterness.
"And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise. "
"The fourth trumpet strikes a third of the sun, moon and stars, so that a third of daylight and a third of the night's light are both dimmed."
When the usual lights you navigate by - certainty, comfort, familiar structures - start to dim, that's exactly when you need to know what you're really anchored to. Ground your life in something that doesn't depend on the lights staying on.
"And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound! "
"John then sees and hears an eagle flying high overhead, crying out three times, "Woe, woe, woe to those who live on the earth" - warning that the three trumpets still to come will be far worse than what's already happened."
I never hide the stakes from you or soften a warning just to make you comfortable - real love tells the truth plainly, because you deserve the chance to actually change course while there's still time.
