Privacy Policy & GDPR Compliance

The People's Bible Project (peoplesbibleproject.org) • Effective Date: September 2026

1. Overview & Data Philosophy

The People's Bible Project is committed to absolute data privacy, transparency, and full compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK Data Protection Act. We believe participation in scripture translation should be frictionless, respectful, and free from commercial exploitation.

2. Two-Stage Deadline & Opt-In Verification Pipeline

To ensure zero friction during public participation while preserving formal consent for the final published Bible, we operate a two-stage data pipeline:

STAGE 1: DRAFT PHASE (Before Project Deadline)
  • Contributors participate using a public handle/username (e.g. Acts 2:38).
  • Contributors may optionally provide an email address.
  • Email addresses are stored in encrypted, confidential storage and are never published online or shared with third parties.
STAGE 2: FINAL VERIFICATION (Post-Deadline Publication)
  • When the editorial deadline arrives, shortlisted contributors receive an automated verification email.
  • Contributors grant formal GDPR opt-in consent to publish their contribution in physical and digital editions.
  • Contributors can provide their Real Full Name and optional Church / Community Group Affiliation (e.g. Grace Fellowship, Leeds) for the printed Appendix.

3. Data We Collect & How It Is Used

  • Public Handles & Proposed Renderings: Stored on the public ledger to display verse contributions and community resonance rankings.
  • Email Addresses (Optional): Used exclusively to contact contributors at the project deadline for Appendix inclusion and verification. Never used for marketing or newsletters.
  • Real Names & Group Affiliations (Verification Stage): Collected only upon post-deadline opt-in confirmation for inclusion in the official printed and digital Appendix of Contributors.
  • Device Resonance Portfolio: Stored locally on your browser (localStorage) to enforce the 5-vote limit without tracking cookies.

4. Your Rights Under GDPR (Right to Opt-Out & Erasure)

Under GDPR, you maintain complete ownership of your personal data:

  • Right to Opt Out: At the deadline verification stage, you may decline publication or elect to remain completely anonymous.
  • Right to Erasure (Right to be Forgotten): You may request the removal of your real name, email, or handle from our databases at any time prior to final print publication by contacting our data protection coordinator.
  • Zero Commercial Monetization: We do not sell, rent, or monetize personal data or email addresses under any circumstances (Article XXX).
