Revelation Chapter 16
Showing all 21 verses for Revelation Chapter 16.
The People's Bible is written by people, for the people. Each verse below shows:
"And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth. "
"A powerful voice from the heavenly temple orders the seven angels to go and pour their bowls of God's wrath out onto the earth."
I don't look away from what's happening in the world - what unfolds here is answered, not ignored. Nothing is random; there's a moral order beneath what looks like chaos.
"And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image. "
"The first bowl brings painful, ugly sores on everyone who had taken the beast's mark and worshipped its image - the people who bought fully into the corrupt system."
What you give your loyalty to shapes you, visibly, over time. I want you to look honestly at what you're serving, because it leaves marks - good or bad - whether you notice at first or not.
"And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea. "
"The second bowl turns the sea to blood like a corpse's, killing every living creature in it."
Notice how the choices of the powerful ripple out and cost the innocent and the natural world dearly - that's real, and it's exactly the kind of thing I care about you caring about.
"And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood. "
"The third bowl turns rivers and springs to blood as well, extending the same judgement to fresh water sources."
Look honestly at what's actually sustaining your life day to day - if the source is corrupt or exploitative, it will eventually show up in everything downstream from it.
"And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus. "
"John hears the angel in charge of the waters affirm God's fairness - addressing him as the eternal one, always right, and declaring these judgements fully justified."
I don't ask you to accept unfairness quietly, and I don't deal in it myself - everything I do is answerable to real justice, and you can trust that even when you can't yet see the full picture.
"For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy. "
"The reason is given plainly: these people shed the blood of God's faithful people and prophets, so now they are given blood to drink in return - a fitting consequence, not an arbitrary one."
What you sow, you eventually reap in some form - not as petty payback from me, but as the honest shape your own choices carve into your life and legacy. Choose to sow life, not harm.
"And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments. "
"A voice from the altar itself agrees with the angel of the waters, confirming that God's judgements are true and fair."
When something in life feels genuinely wrong being done to someone innocent, trust that instinct - real justice matters to me deeply, and it will matter in the end, even when it takes longer than you'd like to see it worked out.
"And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire. "
"The fourth bowl intensifies the sun's heat, scorching people with fire."
Even good things can become a burden when they're detached from gratitude and right relationship - notice what you're taking for granted, and don't wait for it to become painful before you appreciate it.
"And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory. "
"People are scorched with great heat, yet instead of turning to God, they curse his name and refuse to change their ways."
Pain doesn't automatically make anyone wiser or kinder - it's what you choose to do with it that matters. I'd rather you turn towards truth because you see it, not only because you're forced to.
"And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain, "
"The fifth bowl is poured directly onto the beast's own throne, plunging its entire kingdom into darkness so severe that people gnaw their tongues in agony."
Anything you've built your security on that isn't grounded in truth and love will eventually leave you in the dark when it fails - so check now what your own "throne," your real source of security, actually is.
"And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds. "
"Despite the agony, people curse the God of heaven rather than turn from what they've been doing."
I never stop the invitation to turn around and choose differently - but I also won't pretend everyone eventually takes it. The choice is real, and it's genuinely yours to make, again and again, for as long as you have breath.
"And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared. "
"The sixth bowl dries up the great river Euphrates, clearing the way for kings from the east to advance towards the final confrontation."
There's a final reckoning coming for how the world has organised itself against love and truth - I'm not asking you to fear it, but to make sure you know clearly which side your own choices are building.
"And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. "
"John sees three foul, frog-like spirits coming out of the mouths of the dragon (Satan), the beast, and the false prophet."
Watch what's coming out of the mouths of whoever or whatever you're following - loud, repulsive claims dressed up as impressive signs should make you more cautious, not less.
"For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. "
"These are demonic spirits performing convincing signs, sent out to rally the world's rulers together for the final battle of God's great day."
Don't be won over just because something looks miraculous or impressive - test what it actually asks of you and where it actually leads, because dazzling and true aren't always the same thing.
"Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. "
"In the middle of this chaos, Jesus interjects a personal warning: he will come unexpectedly, like a thief, and blesses those who stay alert and keep themselves ready rather than being caught exposed and ashamed."
I'm not asking you to predict timing or obsess over the end of the world - I'm asking you to live well today, so that whenever the moment comes, you're not caught having to scramble or hide. Stay ready by staying honest.
"And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon. "
"The spirits gather the world's rulers to a place called, in Hebrew, Armageddon - the staging ground for the final confrontation."
Every life eventually comes down to a decisive choice of allegiance - not a battlefield to fear, but a moment of clarity worth preparing for honestly now, rather than being caught unprepared.
"And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done. "
"The seventh bowl is poured into the air, and a loud voice from God's throne declares, "It is done.""
Endings, even hard ones, can be doorways rather than dead ends - what's being brought down here is what needed to fall, clearing space for something better to be built. Don't be afraid of necessary endings.
"And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great. "
"Voices, thunder and lightning follow, along with the greatest earthquake in human history."
When something built on the wrong foundation finally collapses, that collapse can feel frightening - but it's often exactly what needed to happen to make room for something genuinely lasting.
"And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath. "
"The great city splits into three parts, other nations' cities collapse, and "Babylon" - the symbol of corrupt worldly power - is specifically remembered and made to drink the full cup of God's fierce wrath."
What you build your life or your influence on matters enormously - build on exploitation and pretence, and it eventually collapses under its own weight; build on love and truth, and it lasts.
"And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. "
"Every island disappears and every mountain vanishes - total geographic upheaval."
Nothing built on the wrong foundation is actually as permanent as it looks - don't anchor your security in things that can vanish. Anchor it in what actually lasts: love, truth, and integrity.
"And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great. "
"Massive hailstones, each roughly forty kilograms, fall on people - and instead of turning to God, they curse him even more because of how severe it is."
I never force anyone's heart open - the door stays open, but I won't break it down. Your response to hardship reveals what you've actually chosen to hold onto; choose to let hardship soften you towards truth, not harden you against it.
