Psalms Chapter 19
Showing all 14 verses for Psalms Chapter 19.
The People's Bible is written by people, for the people. Each verse below shows:
"The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. "
"The skies announce the glory of God; the vast expanse above shows the work of his hands."
Let yourself feel genuine wonder at the natural world - a starry night, a sunrise - without needing to explain it away. That wonder is itself a form of connection worth paying attention to.
"Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. "
"Day after day it speaks; night after night it shares understanding."
Some truths are available to you constantly, every day, if you just pause long enough to notice them - you don't need a special moment, just attention. Build small daily habits of noticing rather than waiting for grand revelations.
"There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. "
"There's no language or speech where their voice can't be heard."
Some truths are available to everyone everywhere, not gatekept by language, culture, or background. Don't assume meaning or wonder belongs only to people who share your specific beliefs or vocabulary.
"Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun, "
"Their message has gone out across the whole earth, their words to the very ends of the world. In the skies, he's set up a home for the sun."
What's genuinely true and good tends to spread and reach far beyond its original starting point - trust that good things can travel further than you expect. Don't underestimate the reach of something started small and honest.
"Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race. "
"The sun is like a bridegroom stepping out of his wedding chamber, joyful as an athlete eager to run a race."
Approach your daily tasks with something like that same eagerness rather than dull routine - even ordinary repeated things can be entered joyfully, like a race you're glad to run. Find the joy hidden inside your own daily "risings".
"His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof. "
"It rises from one end of the sky and travels all the way to the other; nothing escapes its heat."
Some things reach everywhere and touch everyone, whether we notice or not. Rather than resenting that nothing stays hidden forever, consider that being fully seen can also be a source of comfort, not just exposure.
"The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. "
"The LORD's instruction is complete and flawless, reviving a person's whole being; the LORD's testimony is trustworthy, making even inexperienced people wise."
Good guidance, honestly followed, really can turn an ordinary person wise - don't underestimate the power of sound principles applied consistently. Seek instruction that revives you rather than rules that merely restrict you.
"The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. "
"The LORD's rules are right, bringing joy to the heart; the LORD's commands are pure, giving clear sight."
The right kind of boundaries in your life don't crush your joy, they actually protect and enable it - like the rules of a good game make it more fun to play, not less. Look for guidance that clears your vision rather than limiting your sight.
"The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. "
"Reverence for the LORD is pure, lasting forever; the LORD's judgements are completely true and fair."
Cultivate a deep respect for what's genuinely good and true - not out of fear of punishment, but as something clean and lasting that holds steady when everything else shifts. That kind of grounded reverence gives you stability.
"More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. "
"They're more desirable than gold, even the purest gold; sweeter than honey straight from the honeycomb."
Ask yourself what you actually value more, in practice, than money or immediate pleasure - real wisdom is worth pursuing even above these things, because it lasts and satisfies deeply, not just momentarily.
"Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward. "
"By these, your servant is warned, and there's great reward in keeping them."
Good guidance protects you from avoidable pain and rewards you over time - it's genuinely practical, not just theoretical. Don't dismiss wisdom as old-fashioned; test it and notice the real, tangible benefit it brings.
"Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults. "
"Who can even recognise all their own mistakes? Cleanse me from the faults I don't even know I have."
You will never fully see all your own blind spots alone - that's simply true for every human, not a personal failing. Stay open to outside perspective and honest feedback rather than assuming you already see yourself clearly.
"Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression. "
"Also keep me from deliberate, arrogant wrongdoing; don't let it control me - then I'll be blameless, innocent of serious sin."
Be especially careful about the wrongs you do knowingly and deliberately, again and again, until they start to control you rather than the other way round. Catch a bad pattern early, before it becomes your master.
"Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. "
"Let the words I speak and the thoughts I dwell on be pleasing in your sight, LORD, my strength and my redeemer."
Pay attention to both what you say out loud and what you privately dwell on in your mind - real integrity means these two match, not just performing good words while thinking something else. Ask that both your speech and your inner life line up with what's genuinely good.
