Galatians Chapter 3
Showing all 29 verses for Galatians Chapter 3.
The People's Bible is written by people, for the people. Each verse below shows:
"O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? "
"Paul bursts out: you foolish Galatians - who has cast a spell over you, when the picture of Jesus Christ crucified was laid out so clearly in front of you?"
I don't want you following a fog of pressure and persuasion that pulls you away from something you already clearly understood - come back and look again, clearly, at what you already know to be true.
"This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? "
"Paul asks a single sharp question: just tell me this one thing - did you receive God's Spirit by keeping the law, or by simply hearing and believing the message?"
I want you to trust the moments you've genuinely experienced something real and good - don't let a new argument talk you out of what you already know happened in your own life.
"Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? "
"Paul presses further: are you really that foolish? Having started out relying on the Spirit, are you now trying to reach the finish line through your own human effort?"
You didn't need to strive for the good thing that started in you, and you don't need to strive to keep it either - what began by trust doesn't need to be finished by exhausting effort.
"Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain. "
"Paul asks: have you gone through so much for nothing - if it really is all going to be for nothing?"
I don't want the real growth you've fought hard for to be quietly undone by chasing something that only looks like progress - protect what's genuinely cost you something.
"He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? "
"Paul repeats the question in a different form: the one who gives you the Spirit and works miracles among you - does he do that because you keep the law, or because you hear and believe the message?"
Look at where real change and life have actually shown up in you - not where you performed the most, but where you simply trusted, and let that be your evidence.
"Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. "
"Paul turns to Abraham's example: in the same way, Abraham believed God, and that trust was counted as making him right with God."
I've always valued trust over performance, right from the very beginning of this whole story - this isn't a new idea I'm springing on you, it's how I've always worked.
"Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. "
"Paul draws the conclusion: so understand this - it's people of faith who are truly Abraham's children."
I don't measure who belongs to my family by bloodline, nationality or background - I measure it by trust, and that door is open to absolutely anyone willing to walk through it.
"And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. "
"Paul says scripture itself foresaw that God would make even Gentiles right with him through faith, and announced the good news to Abraham in advance, saying: through you, all nations will be blessed."
Blessing was never meant to be hoarded by one group - it was always meant to flow outward, to everyone, and I want you to see yourself as included in that promise, not standing outside looking in.
"So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham. "
"Paul concludes: so then, people who live by faith are blessed together with Abraham, who was a man of faith."
The same blessing available to the very first person who trusted me is available to you too, right now - you're not too late, and you're not on the outside of this story.
"For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. "
"Paul warns: everyone who relies on law-keeping is actually under a curse, because scripture says: cursed is everyone who doesn't keep every single thing written in the law."
I know the exhausting truth about trying to earn your way to being enough through perfect performance - the bar keeps moving and nobody ever fully clears it, which is exactly why I offer you another way entirely.
"But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. "
"Paul says: it's clear that no one is made right with God through the law, because scripture says the righteous will live by faith."
A life that's really alive isn't built on flawless record-keeping - it's built on ongoing trust, day by day, and that's been true since long before you were even born.
"And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. "
"Paul explains: and the law doesn't operate on the principle of faith at all - instead it says, the person who does these things will live by doing them."
I'm not offering you a longer to-do list disguised as spirituality - I'm offering you a completely different way of relating to life, one built on trust instead of relentless doing.
"Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: "
"Paul declares: Christ rescued us from the law's curse by becoming a curse for us - because scripture says, cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree."
I didn't just tell you the weight of perfect performance was too heavy to carry - I stepped in and carried it myself, so you could finally put it down.
"That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. "
"Paul explains the purpose: so that the blessing given to Abraham could reach the Gentiles through Jesus Christ, and so that we could receive the promised Spirit through faith."
What I'm offering isn't reserved for people with the right background or the best track record - it's open, right now, to anyone willing to simply trust.
"Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a manβs covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto. "
"Paul shifts to an everyday analogy: brothers and sisters, let me put this in human terms - even with an ordinary human agreement, once it's been properly finalised, no one can cancel it or add extra terms to it."
I like using everyday, familiar things to help you understand deeper truths - you don't need special training to grasp what matters most; ordinary life already gives you the pictures you need.
"Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. "
"Paul explains: the promises were made to Abraham and to his 'seed' - and note, it doesn't say 'seeds', as if referring to many people, but 'seed', singular, meaning one person: Christ."
Paying close attention to detail matters - I want you to read carefully, think carefully, and not skim past the specifics when you're trying to understand something important.
"And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect. "
"Paul argues: my point is this - the covenant God had already confirmed in Christ can't be cancelled by the law, which came four hundred and thirty years later, in a way that would make the original promise pointless."
What I promised you first still stands - later rules and expectations, however serious they sound, don't get to quietly cancel out the original, freely given commitment I made to you.
"For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise. "
"Paul concludes: if the inheritance depended on the law, it wouldn't really be a matter of promise anymore - but God actually gave it to Abraham through promise."
I'm not paying you wages for good behaviour - what I give is a gift, freely handed over, and I want you to stop trying to convert it back into something you think you have to earn.
"Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator. "
"Paul asks: so what was the point of the law then? It was added because of wrongdoing, to remain in place until the promised 'seed' (Christ) arrived - and it was put in place through angels, by a mediator."
Rules and structure aren't worthless - they can genuinely help you see where you're going wrong - but I never intended them to be the final answer to your deepest need; that answer is relationship, not regulation.
"Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one. "
"Paul adds a technical point: a mediator implies at least two parties involved - but God is one."
I don't always need a go-between to reach you - sometimes the most important things I want to say to you, I say directly, without any layers in between.
"Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law. "
"Paul asks: does this mean the law contradicts God's promises? Absolutely not - because if a law had actually been capable of giving life, then being made right with God really would have come through the law."
I'm not against structure or rules for their own sake - I'm just honest that they were never able to give you the life and peace you're actually looking for; only relationship and trust can do that.
"But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. "
"Paul explains: instead, scripture has locked up everyone under sin, so that the promise - received through faith in Jesus Christ - could be given to those who believe."
You're not more or less 'stuck' than anyone else - everyone starts from the same need, and that means the door I'm offering is open exactly as wide to you as to anyone else on earth.
"But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. "
"Paul says: before this faith came, we were held in custody under the law, kept under guard until the faith that was going to be revealed later."
If you're in a season that feels restrictive right now, I want you to know it doesn't have to be the whole story - sometimes what feels like confinement is actually preparation for a freedom that's coming.
"Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. "
"Paul concludes: so the law functioned like a guardian, leading us to Christ, so that we could be made right with God through faith."
Whatever strict rules or discipline shaped you when you were younger or less mature, I don't want that stage to become your permanent identity - it was meant to lead you somewhere better, into a relationship built on trust, not supervision.
"But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. "
"Paul adds: but now that faith has arrived, we're no longer under that guardian."
I'm not interested in keeping you under constant supervision forever - my goal has always been to grow you into someone who relates to me directly, out of trust, not out of needing to be watched and managed.
"For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. "
"Paul declares: for you are all children of God, through faith in Christ Jesus."
You don't need to keep auditioning for a place in this family - if you trust, you're already in it, fully, right now, not on probation.
"For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. "
"Paul explains: all of you who have been baptised into Christ have, in effect, clothed yourselves with Christ."
I want the change in you to be something you actually wear, visibly, in how you treat people and carry yourself - not just a private belief tucked away and never lived out.
"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. "
"Paul declares: there is no longer Jew or Greek, slave or free, male or female - you are all one in Christ Jesus."
I don't rank you by your ethnicity, your social status, or your gender - in my eyes you stand on completely equal ground with everyone else, and I want that truth to shape how you treat every single person you meet.
"And if ye be Christβs, then are ye Abrahamβs seed, and heirs according to the promise. "
"Paul closes the chapter: and if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's descendants, heirs according to the promise."
The inheritance isn't a distant hope reserved for someone else's family line - if you belong to me, it's already yours, and I want you to start living like the heir you actually are, not like someone still waiting at the door.
