Ezekiel Chapter 10
Showing all 22 verses for Ezekiel Chapter 10.
The People's Bible is written by people, for the people. Each verse below shows:
"Then I looked, and, behold, in the firmament that was above the head of the cherubims there appeared over them as it were a sapphire stone, as the appearance of the likeness of a throne. "
"Ezekiel looked up and saw, in the space above the heads of the four winged creatures, something shaped like a throne, made of a deep blue stone like sapphire."
I don't ask you to understand every strange image in this book before you trust it. Some experiences of the sacred are simply too big for tidy language - what matters is staying open to something greater than yourself, even when you can't fully picture it.
"And he spake unto the man clothed with linen, and said, Go in between the wheels, even under the cherub, and fill thine hand with coals of fire from between the cherubims, and scatter them over the city. And he went in in my sight. "
"God spoke to the man dressed in linen and said, "Go in among the wheels, underneath the winged creature, fill your hands with burning coals from among the creatures, and scatter them over the city." And the man went in as Ezekiel watched."
When things fall apart around you, it rarely comes from nowhere - actions and choices have consequences that eventually catch up. I want you to look honestly at what's burning in your own life rather than calling it bad luck, because honesty is the first step towards real change.
"Now the cherubims stood on the right side of the house, when the man went in; and the cloud filled the inner court. "
"The winged creatures were standing on the south side of the temple building when the man went in, and the cloud filled the inner courtyard."
Not every powerful moment in life feels warm and welcoming - sometimes what's true and important arrives as unsettling weight rather than comfort. Don't run from a hard truth just because it doesn't feel pleasant; sit with it.
"Then the glory of the LORD went up from the cherub, and stood over the threshold of the house; and the house was filled with the cloud, and the court was full of the brightness of the LORDβs glory. "
"Then the glory of the LORD rose up from the winged creature and stood over the threshold of the temple building; the house filled with the cloud, and the courtyard was full of the brightness of the LORD's glory."
Don't mistake a building, a ritual, or a title for the real thing it's supposed to represent. What matters most can't be nailed down to bricks and walls - so build your life on honesty and relationship, not on places or symbols you assume will always protect you.
"And the sound of the cherubimsβ wings was heard even to the outer court, as the voice of the Almighty God when he speaketh. "
"The sound of the winged creatures' wings could be heard all the way to the outer courtyard, like the voice of God Almighty speaking."
Some things in life announce themselves unmistakably, even before you understand them fully. Trust your gut when something feels significant - pay attention rather than rushing past it.
"And it came to pass, that when he had commanded the man clothed with linen, saying, Take fire from between the wheels, from between the cherubims; then he went in, and stood beside the wheels. "
"When God had commanded the man in linen, "Take fire from among the wheels, from among the winged creatures," the man went in and stood beside the wheels."
Faithfulness often looks like showing up and doing the next right thing, even in situations you don't fully understand. I ask for that kind of quiet obedience from you too - trust built through small, consistent actions.
"And one cherub stretched forth his hand from between the cherubims unto the fire that was between the cherubims, and took thereof, and put it into the hands of him that was clothed with linen: who took it, and went out. "
"One of the winged creatures reached out its hand towards the fire that was among them, took some, and put it into the hands of the man dressed in linen, who took it and went out."
There's a difference between feeling something ought to change and actually carrying that change out into the world. I want you to be someone who follows through - who takes what stirs in your heart and does something real with it.
"And there appeared in the cherubims the form of a manβs hand under their wings. "
"Under the wings of the winged creatures there appeared what looked like a human hand."
Even in the most overwhelming, larger-than-life moments of your life, look for the small human details - the point of connection that makes the vast feel reachable. I meet you in the ordinary as much as in the extraordinary.
"And when I looked, behold the four wheels by the cherubims, one wheel by one cherub, and another wheel by another cherub: and the appearance of the wheels was as the colour of a beryl stone. "
"Ezekiel looked and saw four wheels beside the winged creatures, one wheel by each creature, and the wheels looked like they were made of a yellow-green gemstone called beryl."
Don't box in what matters most to a single place, routine, or comfort zone. What's real in you can travel with you into difficulty, exile, or a completely new chapter of life - it isn't left behind when circumstances change.
"And as for their appearances, they four had one likeness, as if a wheel had been in the midst of a wheel. "
"All four wheels looked identical, each one appearing as if a wheel were set inside another wheel."
Life doesn't always move in the direction you expect, and that's not a flaw - it can be a strength. Stay flexible enough to move wherever love and honesty call you, rather than being locked onto one fixed track.
"When they went, they went upon their four sides; they turned not as they went, but to the place whither the head looked they followed it; they turned not as they went. "
"When the creatures moved, they went straight in any of their four directions without needing to turn; wherever the lead direction pointed, they followed it, without swivelling around."
When you know your direction, move towards it directly rather than getting tangled in second-guessing. Purposeful, honest movement - even into something hard - is better than endless hesitation.
"And their whole body, and their backs, and their hands, and their wings, and the wheels, were full of eyes round about, even the wheels that they four had. "
"Their entire bodies - backs, hands, wings - and even the wheels, were covered all over with eyes."
Live as though nothing you do is truly hidden - not because you should fear being watched, but because it frees you to stop pretending. Honesty with yourself is easier once you accept there's nowhere real to hide from the truth.
"As for the wheels, it was cried unto them in my hearing, O wheel. "
"As for the wheels, Ezekiel heard them being addressed, called out loud as "O wheel" (or "whirling wheel")."
Even the parts of your life that feel mechanical or background can carry real meaning and purpose - nothing about you is a lifeless cog. Look for the life and intention even in your routines.
"And every one had four faces: the first face was the face of a cherub, and the second face was the face of a man, and the third the face of a lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle. "
"Each creature had four faces: the first was the face of a cherub (a winged guardian-figure), the second a human face, the third a lion's face, and the fourth an eagle's face."
A whole, healthy character isn't one-dimensional - it holds strength, insight, compassion and vigilance together. Don't feel you must be only one thing; different strengths can coexist in you without contradiction.
"And the cherubims were lifted up. This is the living creature that I saw by the river of Chebar. "
"The winged creatures rose up. Ezekiel notes: this is the same living being he saw before, by the river Chebar."
Consistency matters - I am the same across your good seasons and your hard ones. Don't assume that difficulty means abandonment; the same steady presence that first reached you is still with you now.
"And when the cherubims went, the wheels went by them: and when the cherubims lifted up their wings to mount up from the earth, the same wheels also turned not from beside them. "
"When the creatures moved, the wheels moved right alongside them; and when the creatures lifted their wings to rise from the ground, the wheels didn't pull away from beside them either."
Integrity means your actions, words and inner life moving together as one thing, not pulling in different directions. Aim for that same wholeness - let what you do match what you believe.
"When they stood, these stood; and when they were lifted up, these lifted up themselves also: for the spirit of the living creature was in them. "
"When the creatures stood still, the wheels stood still; when the creatures rose, the wheels rose with them, because the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels."
What drives your life shouldn't be separate mechanisms pulling you along - let one unifying spirit, one set of true values, animate everything you do, so your life moves as a coherent whole rather than disconnected parts.
"Then the glory of the LORD departed from off the threshold of the house, and stood over the cherubims. "
"Then the glory of the LORD departed from the threshold of the temple building and stood over the winged creatures."
Don't hold onto a place or institution past the point where it's still doing what it claims to do. Sometimes moving on, however painful, is the honest and necessary thing.
"And the cherubims lifted up their wings, and mounted up from the earth in my sight: when they went out, the wheels also were beside them, and every one stood at the door of the east gate of the LORDβs house; and the glory of the God of Israel was over them above. "
"The winged creatures lifted their wings and rose from the ground as Ezekiel watched; the wheels rose with them, and they stopped at the entrance of the east gate of the LORD's house, with the glory of the God of Israel above them."
Even in leaving something behind, there can be a pause, a moment of grief or reflection, before the final step. Give yourself that grace too - endings don't have to be sudden or unfeeling.
"This is the living creature that I saw under the God of Israel by the river of Chebar; and I knew that they were the cherubims. "
"This is the same living creature Ezekiel had seen beneath the God of Israel by the river Chebar, and now he recognised them as the winged guardian-figures (cherubim)."
When something important is worth remembering, I don't mind repeating it - some truths deserve to be said more than once until they land. Don't be embarrassed to return to what matters most until it's truly settled in you.
"Every one had four faces apiece, and every one four wings; and the likeness of the hands of a man was under their wings. "
"Each creature had four faces and four wings, and something like human hands was under their wings."
Sometimes it helps to go back over the facts plainly, without embellishment, just to make sure the truth is clear and steady in your mind. Clarity is a form of care, both for yourself and for others.
"And the likeness of their faces was the same faces which I saw by the river of Chebar, their appearances and themselves: they went every one straight forward. "
"Their faces looked exactly like the faces Ezekiel had seen by the river Chebar - same appearance, same beings; and they all moved straight ahead."
Move through life the way these beings move - straight ahead, without needless swerving from your true purpose. Consistency of direction, even through strange and unsettling seasons, is a quiet kind of faithfulness.
