1 Chronicles Chapter 27
Showing all 34 verses for 1 Chronicles Chapter 27.
The People's Bible is written by people, for the people. Each verse below shows:
"Now the children of Israel after their number, to wit, the chief fathers and captains of thousands and hundreds, and their officers that served the king in any matter of the courses, which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year, of every course were twenty and four thousand. "
"This introduces the Israelites organised by their leaders - chief officials, commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, and officers who served the king by monthly rotation, one month at a time throughout the year, with 24,000 men in every rotation."
I ask you to build your life the same way - seasons of service and seasons of rest, not permanent grinding exhaustion. A person burnt out all the time cannot serve well when it truly counts.
"Over the first course for the first month was Jashobeam the son of Zabdiel: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. "
"Leading the first division, for the first month, was Jashobeam son of Zabdiel; his division numbered 24,000."
I notice you when you're faithful in hard, dangerous seasons - and that faithfulness is never wasted; it becomes the foundation people build on later. Don't despise the tough years: they're preparing you for responsibility.
"Of the children of Perez was the chief of all the captains of the host for the first month. "
"Jashobeam was a descendant of Perez and was the overall chief of all the army captains for the first month."
Where you come from matters less than what I call you to do with it - but I still remember and honour the story your family carried before you.
"And over the course of the second month was Dodai an Ahohite, and of his course was Mikloth also the ruler: in his course likewise were twenty and four thousand. "
"Over the second month's division was Dodai the Ahohite (with Mikloth serving as an officer under him); his division also numbered 24,000."
Character proven under pressure is the only kind of trust I ask you to build - not image, not talk, but tested faithfulness.
"The third captain of the host for the third month was Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, a chief priest: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. "
"The third army captain, for the third month, was Benaiah son of Jehoiada, a chief priest; his division also had 24,000 men."
Trust, once earned through loyal action, opens more doors than birth or title ever could. Serve well in the small post you're given and watch how much more gets entrusted to you.
"This is that Benaiah, who was mighty among the thirty, and above the thirty: and in his course was Ammizabad his son. "
"This is the same Benaiah who was a mighty warrior among "the thirty" and even ranked above them; his son Ammizabad served as an officer in his division."
What you build with your life doesn't only bless you - done well, it opens the door for those who come after you to walk further than you did.
"The fourth captain for the fourth month was Asahel the brother of Joab, and Zebadiah his son after him: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. "
"The fourth captain, for the fourth month, was Asahel, Joab's brother; after Asahel died, his son Zebadiah took over the role; his division numbered 24,000."
The good you do outlives you. I don't measure a life by its length but by what it plants for others to carry on.
"The fifth captain for the fifth month was Shamhuth the Izrahite: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. "
"The fifth captain, for the fifth month, was Shamhuth the Izrahite; his division also had 24,000 men."
I know every name that history forgets. Your worth was never dependent on being remembered by others - only on being faithful with what's in front of you.
"The sixth captain for the sixth month was Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. "
"The sixth captain, for the sixth month, was Ira son of Ikkesh, from Tekoa; his division also numbered 24,000."
I look for consistency, not luck. Show up faithfully in the ordinary tests and you'll be ready for the moment that matters.
"The seventh captain for the seventh month was Helez the Pelonite, of the children of Ephraim: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. "
"The seventh captain, for the seventh month, was Helez the Pelonite, from the tribe of Ephraim; his division also had 24,000 men."
Real unity means making room at the table for people who aren't from your own background. I never asked you to only trust your own kind.
"The eighth captain for the eighth month was Sibbecai the Hushathite, of the Zarhites: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. "
"The eighth captain, for the eighth month, was Sibbecai the Hushathite, of the Zarhite clan; his division also numbered 24,000."
The battles you win in private, unseen, become the credibility that lets me use you in bigger ways later. Don't discount a hard-won victory just because no one was watching.
"The ninth captain for the ninth month was Abiezer the Anetothite, of the Benjamites: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. "
"The ninth captain, for the ninth month, was Abiezer of Anathoth, from the tribe of Benjamin; his division also had 24,000 men."
Don't underestimate the place you come from or the people around you - I have plans running through unremarkable towns and unremarkable lives all the time.
"The tenth captain for the tenth month was Maharai the Netophathite, of the Zarhites: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. "
"The tenth captain, for the tenth month, was Maharai of Netophah, of the Zarhite clan; his division also numbered 24,000."
What you prove faithful in during the hidden years is exactly what qualifies you for visible responsibility later.
"The eleventh captain for the eleventh month was Benaiah the Pirathonite, of the children of Ephraim: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. "
"The eleventh captain, for the eleventh month, was Benaiah of Pirathon, from the tribe of Ephraim; his division also had 24,000 men."
A shared name, a shared faith - what matters isn't how unique your name is but how faithfully you live it out.
"The twelfth captain for the twelfth month was Heldai the Netophathite, of Othniel: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. "
"The twelfth captain, for the twelfth month, was Heldai of Netophah, of Othniel's family line; his division also numbered 24,000."
I'm always weaving your life into a bigger story than you can see, connecting generations you'll never meet by name.
"Furthermore over the tribes of Israel: the ruler of the Reubenites was Eliezer the son of Zichri: of the Simeonites, Shephatiah the son of Maachah: "
"In charge of the tribes of Israel: over the Reubenites was Eliezer son of Zichri; over the Simeonites was Shephatiah son of Maachah."
I don't want power concentrated in one place, even in a good cause - share responsibility, and trust others to carry their part.
"Of the Levites, Hashabiah the son of Kemuel: of the Aaronites, Zadok: "
"Over the Levites was Hashabiah son of Kemuel; over the Aaronites (the priestly family) was Zadok."
Loyalty proven in a crisis is remembered and rewarded - not with applause, but with continued trust when it counts most.
"Of Judah, Elihu, one of the brethren of David: of Issachar, Omri the son of Michael: "
"Over Judah was Elihu, one of David's own brothers; over Issachar was Omri son of Michael."
I can turn old family friction into partnership if you let go of the past and make room for each other to grow.
"Of Zebulun, Ishmaiah the son of Obadiah: of Naphtali, Jerimoth the son of Azriel: "
"Over Zebulun was Ishmaiah son of Obadiah; over Naphtali was Jerimoth son of Azriel."
True leadership makes sure the quieter, less prominent people still have a seat and a voice, not just the loudest or closest ones.
"Of the children of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Azaziah: of the half tribe of Manasseh, Joel the son of Pedaiah: "
"Over the tribe of Ephraim was Hoshea son of Azaziah; over the half-tribe of Manasseh was Joel son of Pedaiah."
Whatever wrong was done to you, or by you, doesn't have to define the ending of the story. I can still build something whole out of what was broken.
"Of the half tribe of Manasseh in Gilead, Iddo the son of Zechariah: of Benjamin, Jaasiel the son of Abner: "
"Over the other half-tribe of Manasseh, living in Gilead, was Iddo son of Zechariah; over Benjamin was Jaasiel son of Abner."
I ask you to make peace with former opponents when the chance comes, and to give people space to serve well even if your history with their family was difficult.
"Of Dan, Azareel the son of Jeroham. These were the princes of the tribes of Israel. "
"Over Dan was Azareel son of Jeroham. These were the leaders in charge of Israel's tribes."
I don't need a flawless record to still call your life meaningful and counted - even incomplete stories are held completely by me.
"But David took not the number of them from twenty years old and under: because the LORD had said he would increase Israel like to the stars of the heavens. "
"David did not count the men under twenty years old, because the LORD had promised to multiply Israel like the stars in the sky."
Some things I've promised you don't need to be measured or proven by counting - they need to be trusted. Not everything valuable can or should be quantified.
"Joab the son of Zeruiah began to number, but he finished not, because there fell wrath for it against Israel; neither was the number put in the account of the chronicles of king David. "
"Joab, Zeruiah's son, started the count but never finished it, because divine anger fell on Israel over it; the number was never recorded in David's official chronicles."
Not every impulse, even one dressed up as ambition or progress, deserves to be finished or recorded. Sometimes the wisest thing is to stop halfway and let it go.
"And over the kingβs treasures was Azmaveth the son of Adiel: and over the storehouses in the fields, in the cities, and in the villages, and in the castles, was Jehonathan the son of Uzziah: "
"In charge of the king's treasuries was Azmaveth son of Adiel; in charge of the storehouses in the fields, towns, villages, and fortresses was Jehonathan son of Uzziah."
I don't ask you to separate your faith from your finances or your ordinary responsibilities - handle money and resources honestly, because that discipline matters to me too.
"And over them that did the work of the field for tillage of the ground was Ezri the son of Chelub: "
"In charge of the farm workers who tilled the ground was Ezri son of Chelub."
The work that keeps everyone fed and functioning matters just as much to me as the work that gets noticed and praised.
"And over the vineyards was Shimei the Ramathite: over the increase of the vineyards for the wine cellars was Zabdi the Shiphmite: "
"In charge of the vineyards was Shimei the Ramathite; in charge of the wine produced from the vineyards, stored in the cellars, was Zabdi the Shiphmite."
Growth and increase in your life deserve careful stewardship at every stage, not just excitement at the harvest but wisdom in how it's kept and used.
"And over the olive trees and the sycomore trees that were in the low plains was Baalhanan the Gederite: and over the cellars of oil was Joash: "
"In charge of the olive and sycamore-fig trees in the lowlands was Baalhanan the Gederite; in charge of the olive oil stores was Joash."
Ordinary resources in your life can carry meaning far beyond their practical use - don't dismiss the "boring" provisions as unimportant.
"And over the herds that fed in Sharon was Shitrai the Sharonite: and over the herds that were in the valleys was Shaphat the son of Adlai: "
"In charge of the herds grazing in Sharon was Shitrai the Sharonite; in charge of the herds in the valleys was Shaphat son of Adlai."
Build your security on more than one foundation - diversity and balance protect you when any single thing fails.
"Over the camels also was Obil the Ishmaelite: and over the asses was Jehdeiah the Meronothite: "
"In charge of the camels was Obil the Ishmaelite; in charge of the donkeys was Jehdeiah the Meronothite."
I don't limit who gets to serve well or be trusted based on their background or family history - ability and faithfulness open the door.
"And over the flocks was Jaziz the Hagerite. All these were the rulers of the substance which was king Davidβs. "
"In charge of the flocks was Jaziz the Hagerite. All these men managed King David's personal property and wealth."
Keep clear boundaries between what's genuinely yours and what's held in trust for others - blurred lines about ownership erode trust fast.
"Also Jonathan Davidβs uncle was a counsellor, a wise man, and a scribe: and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni was with the kingβs sons: "
"Jonathan, David's uncle, was a wise counsellor and a scribe; Jehiel son of Hachmoni looked after the king's sons."
Even the wisest person you know still needs people around them willing to speak honestly - don't isolate yourself from good counsel, however capable you are.
"And Ahithophel was the kingβs counsellor: and Hushai the Archite was the kingβs companion: "
"Ahithophel served as the king's counsellor; Hushai the Archite was the king's close friend."
Loyalty tested under pressure is worth more than talent without character. I value the friend who stays when things get dangerous over the genius who leaves when it's convenient.
"And after Ahithophel was Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar: and the general of the kingβs army was Joab. "
"After Ahithophel, the king's counsellors were Jehoiada son of Benaiah and Abiathar; and Joab was the commanding general of the king's army."
Structure and good organisation are valuable, but they can't guarantee loyal hearts. I still ask you to examine your own motives even when everything around you looks well arranged.
