1 Chronicles Chapter 22
Showing all 19 verses for 1 Chronicles Chapter 22.
The People's Bible is written by people, for the people. Each verse below shows:
"Then David said, This is the house of the LORD God, and this is the altar of the burnt offering for Israel. "
"David said, 'This is where the house of the LORD God will be, and this is the altar for burnt offerings for Israel.'"
The place where you've faced your worst moment and experienced real mercy can become the very foundation for something lasting and good - don't be afraid to build your future on ground that once held your deepest struggle.
"And David commanded to gather together the strangers that were in the land of Israel; and he set masons to hew wrought stones to build the house of God. "
"David gave orders to gather together the foreigners living in the land of Israel, and he assigned stonemasons to cut finished stone blocks for building the house of God."
Some of the most important work you'll ever do is preparing the ground for something you won't get to finish or fully see yourself - real generosity often looks like investing in a future you won't personally enjoy.
"And David prepared iron in abundance for the nails for the doors of the gates, and for the joinings; and brass in abundance without weight; "
"David gathered a huge amount of iron to make nails for the doors and gates, and for all the joints and fittings, along with more bronze than could even be weighed."
When you care about something bigger than yourself succeeding, prepare thoroughly and generously, even in the unglamorous details - the nails and joints matter just as much as the grand vision, and real care shows up in the specifics.
"Also cedar trees in abundance: for the Zidonians and they of Tyre brought much cedar wood to David. "
"He also gathered a huge supply of cedar logs, since the people of Sidon and Tyre brought large amounts of cedar wood to David."
Good relationships built over time - even with people quite different from you - can become resources for something meaningful later on. Investing in genuine goodwill with others often pays off in ways you can't predict in advance.
"And David said, Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be builded for the LORD must be exceeding magnifical, of fame and of glory throughout all countries: I will therefore now make preparation for it. So David prepared abundantly before his death. "
"David said, 'My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house built for the LORD must be extremely magnificent, famous and glorious in every nation. So I will make preparations for it now.' And David gathered vast supplies before he died."
If you have the experience, resources, or foresight that someone coming after you doesn't yet have, use it to clear their path rather than leaving them to struggle unnecessarily - that's what real support for the next generation looks like.
"Then he called for Solomon his son, and charged him to build an house for the LORD God of Israel. "
"Then David called for his son Solomon and instructed him to build a house for the LORD, the God of Israel."
Passing on a vision or a calling to someone else isn't just about leaving them the resources - it's about sitting down and explaining, in person, why it matters. Don't assume the next generation will understand your purpose without you telling them directly.
"And David said to Solomon, My son, as for me, it was in my mind to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God: "
"David said to Solomon, 'My son, it was my own heart's desire to build a house for the name of the LORD my God.'"
Being honest with the people you love about your own unfulfilled hopes and desires, even when you've made peace with not getting them, builds real trust and understanding between you.
"But the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Thou hast shed blood abundantly, and hast made great wars: thou shalt not build an house unto my name, because thou hast shed much blood upon the earth in my sight. "
"'But the word of the LORD came to me, saying: You have shed a great deal of blood and fought many wars. You will not build a house for my name, because you have shed so much blood on the earth in my sight.'"
You won't always get to finish or build the thing closest to your own heart, even with the best of intentions - sometimes your role is to prepare the way for someone else, and there's real dignity and purpose in that, not just disappointment.
"Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about: for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days. "
"'A son will be born to you who will be a man of peace. I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side - his name will be Solomon, and I will give Israel peace and quiet during his reign.'"
Different seasons of life, and different people, are suited for different tasks - some are called to fight the hard battles, others to build in the peace that follows. Recognise which season you're in and don't force the wrong task onto the wrong moment.
"He shall build an house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever. "
"'He will build a house for my name. He will be my son, and I will be his father, and I will establish his royal throne over Israel forever.'"
Promises about lasting significance aren't just about one person's lifetime - what you build faithfully now can echo forward in ways far beyond what you personally get to see or understand.
"Now, my son, the LORD be with thee; and prosper thou, and build the house of the LORD thy God, as he hath said of thee. "
"'Now, my son, may the LORD be with you. May you succeed, and may you build the house of the LORD your God, just as he has said you would.'"
When someone you love takes up a task you couldn't finish yourself, offer them your genuine blessing rather than envy or interference - real love wants the other person to succeed, even in the place you couldn't.
"Only the LORD give thee wisdom and understanding, and give thee charge concerning Israel, that thou mayest keep the law of the LORD thy God. "
"'May the LORD only give you wisdom and understanding, and put you in charge of Israel, so that you may keep the law of the LORD your God.'"
When you want the best for someone, don't just wish them success or wealth - wish them wisdom and understanding, because those are what actually make a good life possible, far more than resources alone ever could.
"Then shalt thou prosper, if thou takest heed to fulfil the statutes and judgments which the LORD charged Moses with concerning Israel: be strong, and of good courage; dread not, nor be dismayed. "
"'Then you will succeed, if you carefully follow the statutes and judgements the LORD gave through Moses concerning Israel. Be strong and courageous - do not be afraid or discouraged.'"
Real, lasting success in life is tied less to talent or resources than to living with integrity and courage - don't let fear or self-doubt stop you from doing the good, hard work in front of you.
"Now, behold, in my trouble I have prepared for the house of the LORD an hundred thousand talents of gold, and a thousand thousand talents of silver; and of brass and iron without weight; for it is in abundance: timber also and stone have I prepared; and thou mayest add thereto. "
"'Now look, in the midst of my hardships I have prepared for the house of the LORD one hundred thousand talents of gold and a million talents of silver, along with bronze and iron beyond measure, and timber and stone - and you may add even more to it.'"
Some of your most generous giving may come precisely out of your hardest seasons, not your easiest ones - don't wait for comfortable circumstances before you invest deeply in something that matters beyond yourself.
"Moreover there are workmen with thee in abundance, hewers and workers of stone and timber, and all manner of cunning men for every manner of work. "
"'You also have plenty of workers - stonecutters, masons, carpenters, and skilled craftsmen for every kind of task.'"
Setting someone up to succeed means thinking through everything they'll need, not just the obvious resources - the people, the skills, and the support structures matter just as much as materials or money.
"Of the gold, the silver, and the brass, and the iron, there is no number. Arise therefore, and be doing, and the LORD be with thee. "
"'There's more gold, silver, bronze, and iron than can even be counted. Now get started - and may the LORD be with you.'"
At some point, planning and preparation have to give way to actually starting - if you've done the honest groundwork, don't let hesitation or perfectionism stop you from simply beginning the work in front of you.
"David also commanded all the princes of Israel to help Solomon his son, saying, "
"David also commanded all the leaders of Israel to help his son Solomon."
When you want to help someone succeed at something big, don't just encourage them personally - actively rally other people around them too. Support is more powerful when it's shared and organised, not left to one person's isolated effort.
"Is not the LORD your God with you? and hath he not given you rest on every side? for he hath given the inhabitants of the land into mine hand; and the land is subdued before the LORD, and before his people. "
"'Isn't the LORD your God with you? Hasn't he given you peace on every side? He has handed the people of this land over to me, and the land is now under the LORD's control, and his people's control.'"
When life gives you a season of peace or stability, don't just enjoy it passively - ask what meaningful thing that peace and security is actually meant to make possible, and use it well rather than wasting it.
"Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God; arise therefore, and build ye the sanctuary of the LORD God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of the LORD. "
"'Now, set your heart and soul to seeking the LORD your God. Get up and build the sanctuary of the LORD God, so that you can bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD and the holy articles of God into the house that will be built for the name of the LORD.'"
Whatever big project or goal you're working towards, make sure you never lose sight of the deeper purpose underneath it - the outward structure only really matters if it's serving something genuine happening in your heart and soul.
